Danger Zone

John 12:8

(NKLV) - 8 For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.”

(NASB) - 8 For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have Me.”

(NLT) - 8 You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”

(ESV) - 8 For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.”

A look at Matthew 26:6-13 and Mark 14:3-9 recant this occasion found in John 12:8. The context here is the “anointing of Jesus signifying him as King Messiah, a selfless act of love and devotion – an appropriate way to honor the Messiah. In all three accounts the disciples responded in anger calling the anointing a waste.

Jesus rebukes them saying “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me. 8 For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.”.
